The AP government is facing its worst ever financial crunch in a decade and the State has made a desperate plea to the Center to bail it out of its current predicament.
In fact, the Chief Secretary and principal secretary of finance are camping in Delhi and talking to the Central ministers and officials.
There is approximately about Rs 1100 crore in the treasury. Rs 1200 crore will have to be given for maintenance works and works-in-progress and another Rs 250 crore to the ‘Chandranna Sankranthi Pathakam’. Thus, the Govt has no money left to pay its 5.67 lakh employees.
It has taken an advance loan of Rs 450 crore from RBI. This situation makes one wonder as to why Naidu announced a gift scheme for Sankranthi which would cost the State Rs 250 crore when the finances were in such a bad shape?
What was the need for such a populist scheme in times of adversity? When you are broke, do you go on a spending spree or do you save every penny that you can? And this is a chap who touts the ‘Smart’ mantra!
