Hyderabad: For indulging in cashes on campus with ABVP students and assaulting ABVP student head leading to the latter’s hospitalization, five research scholars on the campus of Central University, Hyderabad were suspended.
The suspension came after a detailed review by an enquiry commission. Of the five students, Rohit Vemula of Guntur committed suicide leading to a tense situation on campus.
Student unions have called for a ‘bandh’ and are now demanding that the vice-chancellor quit his position. Thus, the students are indulging in the very activities that had resulted in the suspension of the five scholars.
The suspended scholars claim that they are Dalit students hailing from very poor families and could not afford suspension. If that be the case, why did they get into group clashes on campus instead of focusing on their academics?
The student who committed suicide did leave a note behind which did not blame anyone. The Vice-Chancellor was only enforcing discipline on the campus.
Similarly, anyone who tries to take advantage of the student’s suicide in the name of caste or religion should also be strictly dealt with. Central University should not be allowed to turn into another Osmania!
