No Takers For Naidu's Capital Plan

No Takers For Naidu's Capital Plan

Telugu Desam Party president, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu might be feeling that working from Hyderabad is like ruling the State from a foreign land, but the employees of his government do not feel so.

Naidu’s plan to shift the entire administration to a temporary capital near Vijayawada by Ugadi festival in March, pending construction of new capital at Tullur, is learnt to have boomeranged.

The employees are learnt to have bluntly rejected Naidu’s call, saying they would not move unless they get all the facilities for their stay.

More importantly, the IAS and IPS officers are said to be reluctant to shift to Vijayawada, as there are no official residences there. They are all used to cosy bungalows in Hyderabad and they are in no mood to stay in make-shift residences.

As a result, sources said, Naidu deferred his plans of temporary capital to July or August by which time the officers would get some furnished accommodation. And with the land pooling becoming tough, even the permanent capital is likely to get delayed.

So, Naidu’s ambitious plan to attract voters with an international capital city by next elections is unlikely to materialize, going by the present pace of developments.
