No Resolution, Only Draft Telangana Bill!

It is now clear that no resolution on Telangana will come to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

A draft Telangana bill will be sent to the Assembly by the President, seeking its views as per the article of the constitution. And, importantly, there will be no voting on the draft bill.

In other words, the Centre will go ahead with the creation of Telangana state, irrespective of what the majority members of the AP Assembly feel about the division.

This was made clear by none other than the PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

With indications from Delhi suggesting that the Congress high-command is entering the final lap before it tests its fortunes at the elections, Botsa said that only Telangana Bill would be tabled in the Assembly.

He, however, added that Seemandhra people are demanding tabling of Telangana Resolution as well in the state Assembly. He feigned ignorance whether the resolution will in fact come to the Assembly.

"As the president of the state unit, it is my responsibility to implement the Congress Working Committee's decision," he said.

With this, it is now clear that the state Congress leadership has virtually thrown up his hands on the Telangana issue. The ball is now in the Centre's court.

Giving clarity on the CWC resolution, Botsa said: “As PCC president, I am bound by the CWC resolution on Telangana.  As a representative of Seemandhra people, I demand the Government to keep the state united.”

Botsa’s comments assume significance in view of the Congress Coordination committee meeting slated for Friday evening to be chaired by Congress General Secretary in-charge of AP affairs, at the Congress War Room in New Delhi.
