The Telugu Desam Party government, which has been foisting cases against opposition party leaders and social activists left, right and centre, has quietly withdrawn police cases against 23 TDP leaders who were involved in various criminal charges.
This has come out through an RTI petition recently. Some of the cases in which the TDP leaders were involved were as serious as assaults, molestations, murders and election-related ones. Most of the cases, however, pertained to Samaikyandhra agitation.
The TDP leaders against whom the criminal cases were dropped are: Ganta Srinivas Rao, K E Krishna Murthy, Nakka Ananda Babu, K Atchannaidu, Kollu Ravindra and Devineni Uma.
While Atchannaidu was booked under IPC sections 354 (rape, molestation), 323 (hurt), 506(1) & (2) read with 34 (criminal intimidation) in 2008, Ganta was facing the charge under Section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder) and Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to the public) in 2009.
Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishna Murthy was booked under section 130 of the Representation of People’s Act for wrongdoings during elections.
Nakka Ananda Babu along with four others were booked under IPC Section 353 for assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty.
These cases along with a public nuisance case against Minister or Law Kollu Ravindra that was booked in 2014 has been withdrawn. Several cases against MLAs, MLCs, ex-ministers and former leaders were also withdrawn.
So, if you are a TDP leader, you can get away with criminal activities. If not today, cases will be withdrawn at a later stage!
