No immediate relief to Naidu in SC, too?

No immediate relief to Naidu in SC, too?

If the reports coming from the national capital of New Delhi are true, there is no immediate relief in sight for Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu even in Supreme Court, in connection with the AP skill development corporation scam.

On September 23, Naidu moved the Supreme Court challenging the state high court order dismissing his petition to quash the case filed by the state Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the alleged multi-crore skill development corporation scam.

After frantic attempts made by his lawyer Siddharth Luthra, the case came up before a bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice SVN Bhatti on Wednesday, but Justice Bhatti recused himself from the case, stating that it could be transferred to another bench.

Luthra approached Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud for an urgent hearing, but the latter deferred the case to October 3 for hearing.

However, sources from Delhi said there were several other urgent cases to be heard by the CJI bench on October 3 and so, the bench might postpone the further hearing to October 6 after initial hearing for a few minutes.

Moreover, the Crime Investigation Department filed a caveat before the Supreme Court saying that it should hear the arguments of the CID first, before taking up Naidu’s petition. So, it would take its own time to present its arguments.

So, the chances of Supreme Court pronouncing its verdict on Naidu’s petition immediately are very remote. The arguments would go on for a long time, before any judgement is given. Till then, it will be jail for Naidu!
