
Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Vizag has emerged as the largest city in the residuary state. And yet, the city still does not have a police commissioner! Strange, but true!
Atul Singh based in Hyderabad is still the acting chief for Vizag which brings us to the question of when Chandrababu is going to appoint a commissioner for Vizag?
Needless to say, without a CP in place, the law and order in the city is entirely in the hands of the politicians. That there has been no untoward incident to date is more a reflection on the peaceful nature of the people of the city than anything else.
But continuing to depend on luck rather than having a proper person at the helm can only lead to disaster.
And by the way, this is the city which Naidu wants to make a ‘smart city’ in conjunction with the US. So, for all of you who are nonplussed by what exactly a ‘smart city’ means, for starters here is a clue: ‘A Smart City does not have a Commissioner of Police’.
