
Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha candidate from Andhra Pradesh.
She will be replacing former Chief Minister Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy, who passed away recently. Though the Telugu Desam Party had the chance to win the seat, it has agreed to give the seat to the BJP, as part of alliance dharma. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu had already promised to support Sitharaman.
The filing of nomination papers for the by-poll commenced from June 16 and will continue till June 23. The scrutiny would be done on June 24 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is June 2.
