Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has a global image – he always claims to have bowled even top countries like US and UK with his hi-tech skills, which was evident from the way top people like Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Tony Blair and James Wolfenson to Hyderabad.
But for people who know how bad Naidu’s English is, it is always a puzzle as to how these world leaders could fall for him.
Most of the media persons, particularly from national media, always crack jokes on Naidu’s language skills and there are many jokes about his English that are in circulation in social media.
“What I am saying..” “Mana vallu briefed me..” “How many children you have?..” and “that is the credibility I am established..” are some of his favourite phrases that hit the headlines in social media.
Of late, an old newspaper clipping is doing rounds in the social media. According to this report, when he was the chief minister of united AP, Naidu had gone to Mumbai to speak at an economic conclave. He spoke for over an hour at the meeting in English.
After listening to his entire speech, a foreign industrialist asked his Indian counterpart to find out whether somebody could give an English translation of Naidu’s speech. And the Indian fellow was shocked and told him that Naidu had indeed spoken in English. May be, it sounded like Greek and Latin for the foreigner!
