Naidu's Claim On River Linkage Bogus!

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Friday dubbed as untruth the claim of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that the linkage of rivers had remained as a dream until he had taken it up.

Talking to media persons at Indira Bhavan, the State party headquarters in Hyderabad, party spokesperson N Tulsi Reddy said that Chandrababu Naidu, as is his won't of making false statements, is claiming that he had realised the dream of linkage of rivers in the State.

"This is utterly false as the linkage of the Tungabhadra with Pennar was completed by the Britishers in 1866 itself through the Kurnool-Cuddapah (KC) Canal," he said.

This apart, when the Congress was in power in the combined Andhra Pradesh, the linkage of Tungabhadra-Pennar-Chitravathi was completed through High-Level Canal.

The Krishna and the Pennar rivers were linked through Galeru-Nagari, Srujala Sravanthi and the Telugu Gannga projects, he stated.

Even the Totapalli project that is the lifeline for the backward districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, which was dedicated to the nation by Chandrababu Naidu, was part of the Jala Yagnam project taken up during the Congress regime.

A total of 95 per cent of the project works were complete when the Congress was in power.

Only the remaining five per cent works were completed after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) came to power, Tulsi Reddy said adding that the Chief Minister was now claiming that the entire project is completed during the TDP rule, which is a false claim again.
