Naidu Woos Polavaram Evacuees

AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said he would take responsibility of ensuring best rehabilitation package to the displaced persons of seven Khammam mandals which were merged into the residuary Andhra Pradesh for construction of Polavaram multi-purpose project.

Speaking to villagers and public representatives from the seven affected mandals at his Camp Office on Sunday, Naidu assured best rehabilitation plan for the affected villagers.

Naidu said a central area would be chosen amidst the seven mandals (four mandals close to West Godavari and three to East Godavari) where two ITDA projects will be established. Each project will have an RDO and a project director.

“I will ensure best development for these merged mandals. Justice will be done to people of Chintoor, Koonavaram, VR Puram, Bhadrachalam, Kukunoor, Velerupadu and Burgampad mandals, who have given their lands for the project,” he assured.

Initially, a temporary plan will be prepared for development of these mandals and later, we will have a concrete plan for permanent development, the Chief Minister said.

Some of the scenic places in these mandals will be developed into tourist spots, Naidu said, adding, a fire station, area hospital and a degree college would be set up.

The villagers informed the Chief Minister that during former CM late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s regime the compensation was only Rs 1,15,000 per acre. They requested Chandrababu Naidu to increase the same to Rs 5 lakh per acre. They also urged the Chief Minister to identify them as people of “merged mandals” instead of “submerged mandals.”
