Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is understood to have asked a hefty financial package of a whopping Rs 3 lakh crore for the development of Andhra Pradesh, if it is not possible to give special status to the State.
Sources in Delhi said Naidu, who had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitely and others, submitted a long list of demands including the financial package of Rs 3 lakh crore under various heads to the State spread over next four years.
This is apart from the regular grants-in-aid to be given by the Centre to the State as per the 14th finance commission recommendation. The break-up of the special package is not yet known.
Naidu is understood to have explained the difficulties he has been facing over the denial of special status to AP.
While asking Modi to reconsider the demand for special package, he requested that he would be able to tackle the opposition if at least the special financial package is announced.
He reminded that the expectation of the people of AP have gone high after Modi’s announcement of special package for Bihar.
