Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu seems to have the habit of announcing one scheme or the other just to appease the people and divert their attention from the real issues concerning them.
On Sunday, Naidu announced one more such a programme called “Talliki Vandanam” (Salutations to mother). He said the government would soon start this novel programme that would be a tribute to all the mothers. And if anybody thinks it is a scheme providing some financial assistance to mothers who are deserted by their children, he is mistaken.
“It is a programme to be implemented by students of all schools and colleges. Before commencing their classes, they should take a pledge that they would respect their mothers and take care of them in their old age. The students should come to schools and colleges after washing the feet of their mothers every day,” he said.
So, it is a programme which does not require a single rupee budgetary allocation by the Naidu government. But one can be definitely sure that the chief minister would spend lakhs of rupees on publicizing this scheme through posters and advertisements with his photographs on the publicity material!
