Naidu Threatening Farmers?

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s tone and tenor in calling upon farmers to handover their lands for building up of capital in and around Vijayawada has drawn a lot of criticism.

Naidu said farmers should handover their lands as part of land pooling for the capital around Vijayawada and declared that if farmers do not come forward voluntarily, the government would forcibly acquire their land.

“This is nothing but threatening and intimidating farmers. Land procurement for the new capital cannot be done this way,” said senior Congress leader and former MLA Malladi Vishnu.

Vishnu said the TDP president talked like a dictator threatening the farmers “to mend or end” manner in procuring land from them for construction of the new capital of the State.

“The government should have thought about land availability before deciding on the capital. It cannot now threaten farmers,” he said.
