Naidu Seeks To Consolidate BC Support

In yet another shrewd political move, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has sought to consolidate the support from Backward Classes to the TDP by proposing one-third reservations to them in elected bodies.

Naidu got a resolution passed to this effect in the Assembly, taking the YSR Congress party by surprise.

He asserted the TDP would provide constitutional rights to Backward classes by bringing in legislation for reservations to BCs in elected bodies.

He said “Adarna” programme would be revived and subsidy on using of diesel would be given to fishermen who wanted to venture into the sea for fishing.

Announcing sops to fishermen community, Naidu said generally payment of compensation would be done after seven years if a fisherman died in the sea. But hereafter compensation would be paid after two years in such cases, he said.

The Chief Minister said backward class people had to face injustice during the regime of late YSR. He said Mudiraj and Vaddare communities would be promoted in the state.

The government would impart training to artisans and funds would be released to promote artisans as per regulations, Naidu said, adding that Kalinga community would be merged in BCs.

The chief minister introduced a resolution providing for 33 per cent reservation to BCs in constitutional bodies, which was passed in the house unanimously.
