Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has revived the popular “Janata Clothes” scheme introduced by his father-in-law and former CM N T Rama Rao, in an obvious move to pamper the backward classes.
Participating in the Janma Bhoomi-Maa Vooru programme at Angaram village in East Godavari district on Saturday, the Chief Minister said the TDP government would re-introduce “Janata vastralu” scheme (dhotis and saris to poor people) introduced by NTR.
Under this scheme, clothes would be distributed to the poor on 50 per cent concession. The government would buy the clothes manufactured by the weavers, he announced.
He reiterated that his government was committed for the welfare of the poor people.
He also announced that pension for handicapped persons had been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1500.
“We will fulfill the promise given to weavers that their loans would be waived,” he added.
