Senior actor-turned-politician and Telugu Desam Party MLA from Hindupur Nandamuri Balakrishna had a bad time on his birthday on Wednesday.
Reason: he got a dressing down from his brother-in-law and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for discussing the cash-for-vote scandal that has been rocking both the Telugu States for the last one week, with his cabinet colleagues.
According to sources, Balakrishna went to the AP Secretariat on Wednesday and held secret parleys with a few ministers of Naidu cabinet including K Achen Naidu to discuss the fallout of the cash-for-vote episode.
They reportedly discussed the possibility of Naidu’s arrest in the scam and what should be done in such an event. They even discussed the possibility of Naidu quitting his post and if it happens who would be his successor.
After that Balayya spoke to media, strongly condemned the alleged telephone tapping by the Telangana government, while Achen Naidu said the TDP government had nothing to with the Revanth Reddy episode as the matter was still under investigation.
Apparently, Naidu, who was in New Delhi on Wednesday to lodge a complaint against KCR with the Centre, came to know about Balayya’s secret meeting with the ministers.
He called him to his residence after his return from Delhi in the night and pulled up the actor for his overaction. He directed that nobody, including Balayya and Lokesh, should speak on the issue right now, sources said.
