Is Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu planning to dissolve the state legislative assembly and go in for early elections?
This is the talk doing rounds in a section of media in the state now.
According to these speculations, Naidu might take a decision to this effect, depending on the outcome of the Karnataka elections.
If the Congress party manages to retain power in Karnataka, Naidu might go in for dissolution of the assembly within a month and recommend for early elections.
There are several reasons for the same.
One: to strike when the iron is hot. If the BJP loses Karnataka polls, it will be in a sort of demoralised state and will take a long time to recover, it if has to venture into the south again.
Secondly, Naidu has got the reports that soon after the Karnataka elections, the BJP leadership might start witch-hunt against him by ordering CBI inquiry into alleged scams in Pattiseema, Polavaram and capital construction etc. By going in for early polls, Naidu can neutralise such chances and the focus will be shifted to the elections.
Thirdly, it will hardly give any breathing time for YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to pool all his resources and fight the elections. He is presently on his padayatra and he has to cut short his tour and work for elections, assuming that they would be held in another couple of months from the date of dissolution.
However, this just a speculation and one doubts whether Naidu would dare give up power with still one more year to go for polls.
