An international convention of the Kamma community, organized by the Kamma Global Federation (KGF), kicked off at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre on Saturday. The event will be held over two days.
“This convention will serve as a gathering for Kammas from diverse backgrounds to unite, engage in meaningful dialogue, and forge a path toward the upliftment of the community within the Telugu States and globally,” said its founder-president Jetty Kusuma Kumar.
He stated that members of the Kamma community from various sectors, including business, industry, culture, film, politics, and other professions, would attend the event.
Given the significance of such a grand global event for the Kammas, one notable figure expected to attend was Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
In fact, when the KGF organizers announced the event in March this year, they mentioned that it would be attended by Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy, and former Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu. At that time, Chandrababu Naidu had not yet won the assembly elections.
However, when the event began on Saturday, there was no mention of Naidu’s name. The event was inaugurated by Revanth Reddy, and several prominent Kamma leaders, including Telangana minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao, attended.
Currently, Naidu is busy with his programs in Amaravati. He is holding a meeting of party MPs at the party office in Mangalagiri to discuss the strategy for the Lok Sabha session commencing on Monday. There is no information yet on whether he will attend the KGF summit on Sunday.
Apparently, Naidu, now that he is the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, does not want to be identified with just the Kamma community. YSR Congress Party leaders, like V. Vijay Sai Reddy, have already been attributing casteist intentions to the TDP.
If Naidu attends such a Kamma community meeting, their allegations might gain traction. For this reason, sources suggest, he chose not to attend the Kamma convention.
