Senior Telugu Desam Party leader and former MLA from S Kota assembly constituency in Vizianagaram district Shobha Hymavathi on Saturday resigned from the party on “personal grounds.”
Shobha Hymavathi, who enjoyed several posts and positions in the TDP including the president of Telugu Mahila (the women’s wing of the party), sent her resignation letter to party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
For the last few months, Shobha Hymavathi has been keeping away from the party activities and not attending even the zoom conferences held by Naidu. Reason: her daughter Swathy has joined the YSR Congress party and holding an important position in the district unit of the party.
Shobha Hymavathi said she had been deliberately sidelined in the TDP just because her daughter quit the TDP and had been in the YSRC. Since she was not able to get proper respect in the party, she was forced to quit the party, she said.
Though she has not spelt out her plans yet, party sources said Shobha Hymavathi is most likely to join the YSRC.
“She has already been in touch with the ruling party leaders. That is why, she found an excuse to quit the party,” a TDP leader said.
