The Chandrababu Naidu government has tightened the noose around senior IPS officer and former Andhra Pradesh CID chief P V Sunil Kumar, one of the top police officials closer to the previous Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government.
On Friday, the state government issued orders for conducting a high-level inquiry into the charges framed against Sunil Kumar. Senior IAS officer R P Sisodia, Special Chief Secretary to Government (Land and D.M., Registration and Stamps), Revenue Department has been appointed as the inquiry officer.
The inquiry committee will also comprise Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement Harish Kumar Gupta as Presenting Officer to present the case on behalf of the Government before the Inquiring Authority.
The committee has been asked to submit the report at the earliest.
Last year, the Naidu government initiated disciplinary proceedings against Sunil Kumar, a 1993 batch IPS officer, who is currently serving as the director general of police (DGP) on waiting list.
The charges against Sunil Kumar include a social media comment regarding the filing of an FIR on July 11, under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Nagarampalem police station in Guntur district.
The government has charged Kumar with violating the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968, which prohibits public servants from making statements criticising govt policies, create embarrassment between the central and state govts, or strain relations with foreign govts.
