The installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras along the entire route leading to YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s residence and party office in Tadepalli on Sunday raised several eyebrows.
During Jagan’s tenure as Chief Minister, the road between the Tadepalli main road and his camp office underwent significant modifications.
The road was widened, dividers were constructed, and heavy security measures were implemented.
Strict restrictions were imposed on public movement in the area, with barricades placed to prevent unauthorized access. The road leading to his residence was accessible only to authorized personnel.
However, after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led coalition government took over, the security scenario around Jagan’s residence changed drastically.
The barricades were removed, allowing free movement for the general public. This relaxation of security resulted in a series of incidents near Jagan’s residence, raising serious concerns.
Recently, a group of TDP activists gathered outside Jagan’s residence to celebrate the birthday of TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh. They allegedly caused a commotion by honking car and bike horns, drawing attention to the reduced security in the area.
The situation escalated further when a fire accident was reported near Jagan’s residence on Saturday. The circumstances surrounding the incident led to speculation and controversy, with YSRCP leaders expressing suspicions.
However, the YSRCP office reportedly refused to share CCTV footage from cameras installed by its staff with police authorities, preventing a clear understanding of the events leading to the fire.
In response, the Naidu government took a decisive step by installing eight government-operated CCTV cameras on the road outside Jagan’s residence. These cameras are now operational, monitoring all movements in and around the area.
While officials insist the move was aimed at maintaining law and order and addressing security concerns, it has further fueled political tensions.
YSRCP leaders questioned the intentions behind the move, suggesting it could be an attempt to monitor Jagan rather than ensure security. They alleged that the Naidu government is using the cameras to snoop on Jagan and keep track of leaders visiting him.
The government, however, maintains that the decision was taken purely for security purposes and to prevent any untoward incidents near the former Chief Minister’s residence.
