Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu does not want to leave any opportunity to get into good books of the people of Seemandhra, who are agitated over his double game on the Telangana issue.
Inspite of the fact that he had not got much response to his Atma Gourava Yatra, the TDP president has once again decided to go into people, this time on the pretext of consoling them for their sufferings due to heavy rains.
On Saturday, he is leaving for Visakhpatnam to tour the rain-affected areas. He would visit one rain-affected district on each day from Srikakulam to Prakasam districts.
The TDP president said heavy rains had increased debt burden of the farmers. Rains had caused more loss and several villages were inundated and roads were damaged at several places. In Srikakulam district alone, 116 lakes have been breached, he said.
Naidu alleged that the Centre and State government have adopted negligent attitude towards providing financial aid to flood victims. He said even Neelam flood victims have not yet received compensation.
The State faced 18 cyclones/floods between 2004 and 2013, but the Centre released only Rs 3,000 crore to help the victims of cyclone and floods, Naidu said.
The Centre and State government should abandon old methods of payment of compensation and adopt a liberal policy in paying compensation, he said.
