Mopidevi, Alla Nani to join TDP?

Mopidevi, Alla Nani to join TDP?

The YSR Congress Party, led by former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is set to face yet another major setback.

According to reports in a section of the media, senior YSRCP leader and Rajya Sabha member Mopidevi Venkataramana is expected to resign from the party, likely on Thursday, and join the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) soon after.

Currently, Mopidevi is the YSRCP president of Bapatla district. He was a senior Congress Party leader during Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's regime and served as the Minister for Infrastructure Development. After the death of YSR, he sided with Jagan and subsequently joined the YSRCP.

It is not immediately clear what has prompted Mopidevi to consider resigning from the party and joining the TDP. However, sources say he has been under pressure from his followers in Bapatla, as the YSRCP has virtually been wiped out in the district.

“He will resign from his Rajya Sabha membership and hold a meeting with his followers at Repalle in a couple of days before joining the TDP along with his supporters,” sources said.

Interestingly, another senior leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, also known as Alla Nani from Eluru, who recently resigned from the party and his posts, is also likely to join the TDP soon, according to sources.
