Mom Gets Cong Ticket, Son Quits Party!

Mom Gets Cong Ticket, Son Quits Party!

The grand old Congress party is known for witnessing strange developments before the elections.

There will be intense competition for party tickets; those who serve the party for ages don’t get tickets and those who defect from other parties get the prominence; and those who leave the party long ago stage a comeback before elections and those who don’t get tickets leave the party in a huff.

Take the case of former home minister Sabita Indra Reddy's son P Karthik Reddy, who resigned from the Congress party in protest against denial of ticket from Rajendranagar assembly constituency, which was allotted to the Telugu Desam Party as part of Maha Kootami (grand alliance).

The Congress high command apparently decided to enforce one-family-one ticket concept in case of Karthik.

His mother was given party ticket from Maheshwaram constituency, but Karthik also wanted ticket from Rajendranagar, but was denied the same. Karthik, who held a meeting with hundreds of his followers, decided to quit the party.

“When other senior Congress leaders like PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy could get more than one ticket for their families, why can’t I get the ticket along with my mother?” Karthik asked. He filed his nomination from Rajendranagar as a rebel candidate.

Karthik unsuccessfully contested from Chevella Lok Sabha constituency in 2014. Now, he wanted to contest from Rajendrnagar assembly seat.
