After the political parties in Andhra Pradesh, it is now the turn of the BJP to be affected by the Telangana statehood issue.
The national leadership of the saffron party is said to be vertically divided over the sensitive issue.
Though the BJP has been steadfastly in support of the bifurcation of the state, the new star of the saffron party and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is now believed to be suggesting a U-turn on the issue in order to firm up an alliance with the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam party.
However, the party's floor leader in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj is in favour of Telangana state at any cost. Her views are coming into conflict with Modi's as far as Telangana is concerned.
Swaraj and other senior leaders contend that since the party had promised to deliver Telangana state, it must keep up the promise under any circumstances.
On the other hand, Modi is guided by real politics and the need to attract more allies into the NDA fold ahead of the crucial general elections.
Modi has a point to prove to his seniors in the party. The main argument by L K Advani and his associates against Modi is that because of his "divisive image" several potential alliance partners will be willing to join the alliance.
By attracting TDP, Modi wants to prove his point. For that purpose, he is willing to dump Telangana. He, however, will continue to promise Telangana state if BJP is voted to power.
But, the new state would be created only after resolving all the issues and addressing the concerns of the Seemandhra people.
