Modi Taking It Easy With KCR?

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s attempts to pamper Prime Minister Narendra Modi seem to have backfired with Modi taking it easy with him.

KCR has been trying to get closer to the Bharatiya Janata Party for quite some time, in his bid to take on the Congress party in Telangana.

His ambitious plan of floating a federal front was also believed to be a strategy to isolate the Congress and benefit the BJP.

During his latest meeting to New Delhi, KCR did not meet any regional party leaders to hold discussions on federal front.

He just met Modi and Union home minister Rajnath Singh to represent on the issues concerning the state, besides attending the Niti Aayog meeting on Sunday.

He was also very soft in his approach while putting forth the demands pertaining to the state, which was evident from his representation to the Prime Minister, wherein he conveniently avoided mentioning crucial demands like 12 per cent quota for Muslims. In his speech at the Niti Aayog meeting, too, he praised the Centre.

Yet, Modi did not take him seriously. When KCR raised the issue of linking agriculture to National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) in his memorandum, Modi did not say anything. But when Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu raised the issue at the NIti Aayog meeting and other chief ministers endorsed it, Modi readily approved it.

Within 48 hours, Modi constituted a CMs’ committee with Madhya Pradesh chief minister as the convenor and Naidu as one of the members. And KCR, who was the first one to give the idea was nowhere in the picture.

What is worse, Modi rejected KCR’s proposal for the candidature of his party MP K Kesava Rao for the Rajya Sabha deputy chairman post and instead, asked asked the TRS support to Shiv Sena candidate for the same.

“That is Modi’s style. He does not entertain those who try to pamper him,” an analyst said.
