The investigative report carried by an English news portal on the alleged payment of five-star marriage expenses of senior Telangana IAS officer Rajat Kumar’s daughter allegedly by Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) has created a sensation in the political and media circles.
While the Congress demanded a judicial inquiry into the alleged “Megha” scam, the BJP and the TRS have remained tight-lipped, as the infrastructure firm has strong connections with the KCR government in Telangana and the Modi government at the Centre.
Sources, however, said Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has ordered a secret investigation by the intelligence department into the issue.
The investigation is not about alleged payments by MEIL for the wedding expenses of the IAS officer’s daughter, but into who might have leaked the documents to the media.
According to the sources, KCR is suspecting that some powerful sources within the TRS might be behind the leakage of documents including the correspondence between the MEIL employees and the Taj Group of Hotels management to the news portal.
The needle of suspicion, according to these sources, points towards KCR’s son K T Rama Rao, who has not been tolerating the dominance of MEIL promoter Krishna Reddy in every aspect.
He is of the view that Krishna Reddy was virtually running the parallel government by keeping the top IAS officers under his control.
There is a talk that Rajat Kumar is likely to become the next chief secretary of the state and if that happens, Megha Krishna Reddy would have complete dominance over government.
“If KTR becomes the next chief minister, he is apprehensive that he might not have control over them,” source said.
That is why, some senior IAS officers with the help of their moles in the MEIL, managed to get access to the correspondence between the MEIL staff and the hotel management.
“Not only that, they could get even the video footage of the MEIL representatives moving with Rajat Kumar in the hotel premises to make arrangements for the wedding,” sources said.
