Medak bypoll: TRS may not retain majority

If the reports from the ground zero of Medak Parliamentary Constituency are to be believed, Telangana Rashtra Samithi candidate Kotha Prabhakar Reddy might not get the same majority in the present by-election, as that was secured by Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao in the April 30 general election.

According to these reports, the TRS candidate might end up with victory with a majority of 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh votes, compared to over 3.5 lakh votes secured by KCR in the last elections.

Indications are that Congress candidate Sunitha Lakshma Reddy might secure second place and BJP candidate T Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy might be pushed to the third place.

Sources said the reduced majority of the TRS could be attributed to growing discontent among the people, especially farming sector, over non-implementation of poll promises like crop loan waiver, besides unprecedented power crisis. Medak witnessed big number of suicides by farmers in the last three months and agitations by farmers at sub-stations.

The Congress candidate is understood to have fared well in Narsapur, Dubbak and Medak, while the TRS scored maximum in Siddipet and Gajwel.

The defection of Jagga Reddy from the Congress to the BJP and the campaign by the TDP turned out to be negative for him and there was a poor turnout of voters in Sangareddy and Patancheru, sources said.
