Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s strategy of reining in his party MLAs by categorising them into different grades seems to be yielding good results.
Several MLAs who have put under Grade D have started making a beeline to Naidu to give him an explanation on their performance. More than the grading, the information obtained by Naidu as regards their alleged involvement in settlements, illegal land dealings and sand mafia activities etc., is learnt to have bothered them more.
And they tried to explain to Naidu that the allegations were false, but when Naidu produced evidences against them, they were stunned.
He warned them that if they continued to indulge in such activities, they were bound to lose elections and hence, they should not expect party tickets next time.
He told them that the grading was done only to see that they mend their ways and get the people’s support.
Interestingly, Naidu told them that his own ranking was not good in his Kuppam constituency, as there was a negative feedback against him from the people.
“This is basically because I left my constituency to local party leaders and did not focus on it. Now, I have also decided to correct myself and concentrate on Kuppam,” he told them.
