Telugu Desam Party general secretary and Andhra Pradesh state information technology minister Nara Lokesh on Tuesday called on former MLA and prominent Kapu leader Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, who suffered from heart attack a month ago.
Lokesh, who had been in New Delhi since Monday, returned to Vijayawada and drove straightaway to the residence of Vangaveeti at Praturu near Tadepalli. He spent sometime with the Kapu leader and wished him speedy recovery.
Sources said Lokesh had wished that Vangaveeti would return to active politics very soon and play an important role in the TDP.
He assured that the Kapu leader would soon be nominated to the state legislative council and be given important position in the government.
Vangaveeti had quit the YSR Congress party just before the 2019 assembly elections and joined the TDP. He, however, could not get the TDP ticket in the elections as it was too late.
He continued to stay back in the TDP, though he was not very active in the party. Though he had received invitation from his close friends and YSRCP leaders Kodali Nani and Vallabhaneni Vamsi to join their party, he did not respond.
Vangaveeti took active part in Lokesh’s Yuva Galam padayatra and later called on TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu after the latter came out of jail on bail in the skill development case, indicating that he would very much continue in the party.
Yet, he could not get the party ticket again in the 2024 assembly elections for various reasons. Apparently, Naidu promised him to nominate him to the legislative council and take him into the state cabinet.
Perhaps, Lokesh met Vangaveeti on the same mission and assured that the party will take care of his political interests in the coming days.
It may be mentioned that the Kapu leader suffered a heart stroke on September 26. He complained of chest pain and his family members rushed him to a private multi-speciality hospital in Vijayawada.
After performing several tests, doctors informed Vangaveeti family members that he will be kept under observation for 48 hours and currently his condition is stable.
