'Local' Problem For AP People

'Local' Problem For AP People

He may not be able to secure the promised special status to Andhra Pradesh, but Chandrababu Naidu is going all out in his efforts for another kind of status: 'local status'.

Andhra people who move to Andhra from Hyderabad will be considered non-locals according to the existing law.

A minimum period of four years residence or education at a particular place is mandatory for being considered a local.

With many Andhra people keen on going back following the bifurcation, the law is proving to be a major handicap.

Chandrababu has therefore written to the Union government requesting that all Andhra people who go back to their native state within the next two and three years be conferred ‘local status’.

"People who migrate to any party of state of Andhra Pradesh from Telangana after bifurcation within a period of three years from the date of bifurcation of the state will have the local status of the place where they choose to reside on par with candidates who are having local status of that area, as per guidelines to be issued by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in this respect."

Since the people of AP are convinced that special status is only a dream, they have to be content now with ‘local status’.
