Let Delhi Be Turned Into Cairo

Let Delhi Be Turned Into Cairo

There is a growing sense of frustration among the Seemandhra leaders as the UPA leadership has been making it clear time and again that there will be no going back on bifurcation of the state.

With the hopes of stalling or even delaying the process of Telangana state formation fast receding, a section of Seemandhra leaders are growing restive and desperate.

The State Minister T G Venkatesh and Erasu Prathap Reddy have suggested that a "Cairo-type" siege of the national capital would force the Centre to rethink on the issue.

The two leaders want the people of Seemandhra to march to Delhi in large numbers and lay siege to the city so that the protests would serve as an eye-opener to the central government.

"Let peole go to Delhi in lakhs and stage continuous protests. This is the surest way to halt the process of division of the state. By this, our party central leadership will change its stand," Venkatesh says.

It is strange for the elected representatives, that too holding cabinet posts, to suggest an anarchy route to realize a political goal.

This surely will not augur well for the country's democracy.
