It has been a tradition for the government to present costly gifts to all the MLAs and MLCs during the budget session every year.
Generally, they are presented to the legislators on the last day of the budget session after the passage of Appropriation Bill. The members would also be thrown lavish dinner by the Finance Minister. There would also be sports and cultural activities.
This year, too, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to give tablet computers or simply tabs to all the MLAs and MLCs on the occasion of budget session.
However, instead of on the last day of the session, the government gave these tabs to the legislators on the eve of the budget presentation.
According to sources, the authorities had spent around Rs 20,000 on each tab, though they are available at a much cheaper rate.
What is more interesting is that the government had purchased around 400 tabs, though there are only 225 MLAs and MLCs put together. So, there is no account for the remaining 175 tabs.
Ironically, the government had provided similar tabs to the legislators last year too. Nobody knows what has happened to them and this year, the government gave them same gifts.
