The last-minute entry of former MLA from Munugode Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy into the Congress party, while the party high command has almost finalised the second list of candidates for the Telangana assembly polls, is said to have become a big headache for Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy.
Right from the beginning, when Rajagopal Reddy was in the Congress in the past, he had been strongly opposing Revanth Reddy becoming the PCC president.
Because of the importance being given to Revanth, he came out of the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
When Rajagopal Reddy quit his assembly seat and contested the by-elections to Munugode assembly seat in November last year, Revanth Reddy encouraged his follower Chalamalla Krishna Reddy to contest from there.
But due to some equations and opposition from Rajagopal Reddy’s brother Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the Congress high command gave the ticket to a weaker candidate – Palwai Sravanti.
She lost the elections and the deposit, while Bharat Rashtra Samithi candidate K Prabhakar Reddy won the seat.
In the last one year, Krishna Reddy has been nurturing the constituency and has emerged as a strong contender, as Rajagopal Reddy remained inactive after joining the BJP. Revanth Reddy also recommended Krishna Reddy’s name for the Munugode seat.
But now, Rajagopal Reddy is back in the Congress party and with the support of his brother Venkat Reddy, he is lobbying for the Munugode seat again. This has become a big irritant to Revanth Reddy.
Now, Krishna Reddy is worried about his seat. While he welcomed Rajagopal Reddy back into the Congress, he is requesting that the latter look for an alternative seat, as he has been pinning hopes on Munugode.
Sources said Revanth Reddy is suggesting that Rajagopal Reddy should move to L B Nagar constituency and leave Munugode to Krishna Reddy. But Rajagopal Reddy is said to be insisting on Munugode only.
That is where the Congress list has stuck up. It remains to be seen who will have the last laugh – Revanth Reddy or Komatireddy brothers.
