Land for capital, a tough task for Naidu

Land for capital, a tough task for Naidu

The procurement of the required lands for building his dream capital for the new State of Andhra Pradesh is turning out to be the most difficult task for Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, as the farmers are refusing to part with their lands.

Naidu on Saturday called an emergency meeting of the cabinet sub-committee to discuss ways and means to wriggle out the tricky situation.

The farmers are vehemently opposing the take-over of their precious lands as they contended that their families for generations have been eking out their livelihood by cultivating these lands.

The protests by the farmers had come in handy for the opposition parties, especially the YSRCP.

Naidu made a fervent appeal to all the people of the state to extend whole-hearted support and cooperation to his government’s endeavor to develop the news capital amenable to all sections and sectors.

Reminding that the capital should be nearer to the people and feasible in all aspects, he charged that some vested interests were misleading the people and creating hurdles for the project to take off.

Naidu further explained that the capital of the state was being planned in such a way that the development activity should spread all around and it would be the farmers and the poor who would be the first to be benefited from the new capital.

Assuring to provide houses for those who do not have a shelter, he indicated that the government would make a one-time settlement of the farm loan to the tune of Rs.1.5 lakh for those farmers where the new capital would be developed.
