Not long ago, the Andhra Pradesh government has dropped the plan to acquire land for the new capital of Amaravati, following the court order and also protests from locals.
All that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had been saying is that he would convince farmers to give the land through land pooling.
However, now, Naidu is back to his wily game of acquiring land, if the statement of Minister for Agriculture Pattipati Pulla Rao on Wednesday is any indication. He said a notification for land acquisition will be issued in November.
The Minister said that though almost all the farmers had agreed to give their land under pooling and the State Government too has already completed the formalities, only a handful of farmers are still not in favour of the land pooling.
"We cannot afford to leave a piece of land in the middle a large tract and thus we have to invoke the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act," he said.
Only 300 acres of the 33,000 acres are remaining in the midst of the whole area and the notification to acquire this land will be issued in the first week of November, he said adding that the submerged lands too will be acquired.
