The Vijayawada Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal is a disappointed man. When he went to the office of the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to press for acceptance of his resignation from the House, she made herself unavailable.
He was told that the Speaker was not available for any meeting with the MPs who had submitted their resignation to protest against the division of Andhra Pradesh.
As a result, he had to return with disappointment writ on his face. However, putting up a brave front, Lagadapati said "Wherever the Speaker, we will go and meet her and will not give up our efforts till she accepts our resignation."
Known for his aggressive approach, the staunch integrationist questioned the rationale behind the UPA's decision on division of the state when general elections are just six months away.
He lamented that though two months have passed since they submitted their resignations, they have not been acted upon by the Speaker.
"They have kept our resignation letters pending," he said.
Lagadapati claimed that only after the resignation of Seemandhra MPs, the Congress central leadership had set up the AK Antony Committee to go into the concerns of the people of Seemandhra. The MP also criticized the party leadership for deciding to split the state in utter disregard of the people's feelings.
"How can we take such an important decision when majority of the people in the state are opposed to it?" he asked.
