Every now and then, there has been a talk in the political circles in Telangana that TRS president and CM KCR would move to national politics and anoint his son and IT minister KTR as his successor in the state.
There have been umpteen instances of TRS leaders, including ministers, making open declarations that KTR would be the next chief minister.
As a matter of fact, KTR also has been acting like a de facto chief minister with the officials honouring him with all the protocols of a chief minister.
Though he has been holding portfolios of IT, industries, municipal administration and urban development, KTR has been involving himself in the reviews of various other departments like irrigation and health.
He even held an impromptu cabinet meeting recently with all the ministers and officials, leading to the fresh speculations that he might be anointed as the chief minister any time.
Adding to these speculations, there were reports in the media that KCR is going to float a new national party soon.
However, sources said it is unlikely that KCR will make his son as the chief minister in the near future.
“KCR needs the position of the chief minister to fight with the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre. Even if he floats a national party or revives the concept of federal front, he will do it only in the capacity of the CM,” sources said.
They point out that the moment he steps down from the post of CM, the TRS president will lose his voice at the Centre.
“Nobody takes him seriously if he doesn’t have any position. At least, he has to be a Rajya Sabha member to be seen and heard,” sources added.
