Krishna River Must Not Turn Into Another Musi

On one hand, Chandra Babu and his government are making grand plans to develop the new capital city on both sides of Krishna river.

But environmentalists are concerned that this could result in the pollution of the river. They are warning that care must be taken right from the planning stage that Krishna must be turned into yet another Musi river.

According to reports from Vijayawada, some experts are already in discussions and are trying to work out ways to minimize the damage.

They fear that with the construction of new structures, all waste could be dumped into the river heavily polluting it.

Environmentalist D Srinivasa Rao has suggested that the government and the concerned bodies must look at the feasibility of constructing new structures on the upper side of Prakasam Barrage.

On the other hand, ex member of Drainage Board Erneni Nagendra Prasad has suggested that while there will be no problem with the construction of new buildings per se, care must be taken to ensure that the drainage water and pollutants are diverted to special treatment plants.

Meanwhile another expert suggested that it would be best if no construction takes place up to one kilometer distance from Krishna river.

They say that all these factors must be considered before starting the construction based on vaastu guidelines.

They give the example of River Ganges which was polluted beyond repair in Varanasi.
