The Congress party which is contemplating going alone in Andhra Pradesh in the ensuing elections is all set to receive a rude jolt in Kurnool with former Union minister Kotla Surprakash Reddy deciding to shift loyalties to the Telugu Desam Party.
According to sources close to him, Kotla is disappointed with the decision Congress party to go it alone in the coming elections.
At the core committee meeting held on Wednesday in Vijayawada, Kotla strongly argued in favour of an alliance with the TDP and when the other leaders opposed the same, he walked out of the meeting, which was attended by AICC in-charge of Andhra Oommen Chandy and PCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy.
Kotla said the Congress party had faced many problems after the state bifurcation but gradually gained people's administration with various development works done for the past four years.
He recalled that Rahul Gandi promised special status for Andhra Pradesh and proposed the same in CWC. If the party allied with the TDP, it would fetch big benefits, he reportedly argued.
The latest news is that Kotla is going to have a meeting of his followers soon and take a decision on shifting his loyalties to TDP.
