KCR's sudden love for settlers: What's up?

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's sudden love towards Seemandhra “settlers” in Hyderabad has surprised many on Thursday.

KCR, while admitting some leaders and activists from Kukatpally into the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, announced that the word “settler” would be removed from his dictionary.

He said the word would not be used in Telangana hereafter, as he would treat all those who have been staying in Hyderabad over years as locals and Telanganites.

KCR admitted that during the course of “statehood movement” some emotional comments and statements might have been made and such a situation will not arise as the government is geared up to provide complete protection to all people.

“All those staying in Telangana region are Telugu people and my government takes responsibility to protect each of them”, KCR assured.

One wonders why KCR has developed so much love for “settlers.” It was only till recently that he tried to deny fee reimbursement scheme for settlers by imposing 1956 as cut-off year. And people have not forgotten his statement after becoming the Chief Minister that Seemandhra people should leave Telangana.

Now, the reason for his sudden love for settlers is nothing but forthcoming GHMC elections, in which he badly needs their support. After all, the TRS got just three out of 24 Assembly seats in Greater Hyderabad in the 2014 elections.

Secondly, he is also apprehensive that the Centre might give absolute powers to Governor to protect the interests of settlers in Hyderabad. So, he is trying to woo settlers to pre-empt any such move by the Centre, say sources.
