The CM of Telangana, KCR has a bit of a reputation for hitting the bottle quite frequently. But clearly, it is a bit too much when he allows that fascination to reflect in his priorities of administration.
Farmers are committing suicides every day in Telangana. But the government has done absolutely nothing to date to mitigate their suffering.
KCR has not gone and consoled even a single farmer’s family either to give them solace. And starting from October 1, his government has decided to sell ‘affordable (cheap) liquor in sealed bottles.
The government will also control and manufacture the distribution of cheap liquor. “Poor people are falling prey to illicit liquor. Hence this decision has been taken keeping in mind their health, not for revenue,” is the official stance of the government.
The head of a state should try and create an atmosphere in which people are encouraged to give up vices. But here, in the name of quality, KCR is just cashing in on the poor people’s vices.
If people are falling prey to ID liquor, can’t he curb the ID Liquor instead of having to manufacture it himself? But what else can one expect from a CM who is himself addicted to alcohol?
Telangana’s priority now, first and foremost should be the welfare of the farmers followed by the notification of the promised jobs for students. The fight for Telangana was not to make the poor people of the State, drunkards.
