The much-awaited English daily – Telangana Today – promoted by Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, albeit indirectly, hit the stands on Friday, but it turned out to be a big disappointment for the readers.
First of all, there was no pre-launch publicity for the daily and so, for most of the English newspaper readers, it was a big surprise.
The paper was launched purely informally at the printing press by Telangana publications MD D Damodar Rao in the presence of staff. Neither KCR nor his family members evinced any interest in the launch of the daily.
Apparently, they have lost interest in the paper, but since the exercise had been going on for the last one year, they have no option but to launch the daily at last.
And when it came out, Telangana Today has failed to give the first impression. Though there were no big expectations about the daily since it is promoted by the ruling party, everybody thought it would have some big stories of public concern. But, the stories on the first day were very pale and routine and the daily looked no different from an ordinary paper.
However, the printing quality and newsprint were excellent and they proved the saving grace for the daily. Hope it would improve its content in the coming days.
