Till the other day, there was a talk in the Bharath Rashtra Samithi that party president and Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will not contest the assembly elections but fight for the Lok Sabha polls from Karimnagar, leaving the state to his son K T Rama Rao.
However, the latest talk is that KCR will indeed contest the assembly elections as it is necessary for him to lead the party to victory in the state. If the BRS comes to power again, he can make his son as the chief minister and he will focus on the national politics.
So, when the Lok Sabha elections are announced four or five months later, he would quit the assembly seat and contest the Lok Sabha elections, party sources said.
Now, the question is which assembly constituency he will choose this time.
According to sources, KCR may contest from either Kamareddy or Peddapalli assembly constituency in the ensuing elections. If possible, he will continue his fight from his present constituency Gajwel as well.
According to party sources, the chief minister has first considered Kamareddy assembly segment, but intelligence reports said the situation is not so favourable to the BRS there, due to protests from farmers on the Master plan of Kamareddy.
Even if KCR wins, the margin would be very thin, which he doesn’t want. So, he has changed his mind and is now considering Peddapalli the assembly segment, which would help the BRS candidates in the adjacent constituencies as well.
KCR’s contest from Peddapalli segment would have an impact in Karimnagar, Rajanna-Sircilla, Jagtial, Peddapalli, and Mancherial districts benefitting the party candidates in the assembly elections.
Peddapalli sitting legislator Dasari Manohar Reddy is learnt to have stated that he would not be contesting the elections this year.
During the allocation of party tickets in the 2018 elections when there was huge demand from the aspirants, Manohar Reddy had informed the party ticket that this was his last election.
The newly carved out Peddapalli district is a total command area with the flowing of rivers Manair and Godavari and Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project waters through this district only. So, it would help KCR in all angles, sources added.
