With the Telangana assembly going for early elections, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government led by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is leaving no chance to target the Congress leaders so as to deny any political advantage to them in the elections.
So, the TRS government has started digging out old cases against the Congress leaders, besides taking quick action against them if there are any fresh incidents.
It started with the arrest of senior Congress leader and former Sangareddy MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy in connection with a 2004 case of alleged human trafficking.
Though there were several such similar episodes in the past, the TRS government specifically targeted Jagga Reddy to demoralize the Congress party. He was sent to judicial remand for two weeks and was denied bail.
Within 24 hours, the government targeted former chief whip and senior Congress leader Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy of Bhupalpally district. He was implicated in a case of threatening a realtor and was booked under Arms Act.
On Wednesday, the Hyderabad police began witch-hunting of another powerful Congress leader and former Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy.
The Jubilee Hills police served a notice on him under Section 41 of Criminal Procedure Code in connection with the alleged irregularities in Jubilee Hills Cooperative Society case.
Along with Revanth Reddy, 12 others were also served notices asking them to appear before the police within 15 days for questioning.
He was charged with being involved in allotment of housing plots based on forged documents.
Revanth, however, replied to the notice saying he would not be able to attend the police station as he was busy in electioneering in his constituency.
“This is just a beginning. More and more Congress leaders would face troubles in the coming days so that they would not come in the way of the TRS victory in any manner,” a Congress leader said.
