In October 2022, just before the Munugode Assembly bypoll in Telangana, the 'poachgate' case broke out, creating a sensation not just in Telangana but across India.
Three individuals, allegedly BJP agents, were arrested by the Telangana police at a farmhouse in Moinabad, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The farmhouse belonged to BRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy.
The individuals were accused of attempting to lure four BRS MLAs, namely Pilot Rohith Reddy, Guvvala Balaraju, Beeram Harshavardhan Reddy, and Rega Kantha Rao, into joining the BJP by offering them Rs 100 crore each. The intention was to create a shock for BRS before the Munugode bypoll.
BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao even held a public meeting in Munugode, along with these four poachgate MLAs, during which KCR hailed them as 'heroes' for refusing Rs 100 crore to save democracy.
However, after eight months, the fate of this case remains unknown. Surveys commissioned by KCR in these four constituencies reportedly indicated that these four MLAs have lost the trust and credibility of the voters.
It is believed that they would not win if they were given tickets in the upcoming Assembly polls scheduled for December this year.
With the survey results in, KCR is reportedly avoiding these four MLAs and not granting them appointments to meet him.
These MLAs are no longer seen as heroes in the eyes of KCR, who is reportedly searching for alternative candidates to replace them.
