KCR Requires Rs 1,250 Cr For Fee Scheme

The Telangana government requires over Rs 1,250 crore to implement the fee reimbursement scheme in the State.

This was revealed by Telangana Engineering and Professional Colleges Management Association chairman N Gautam Rao and Secretary Md Khaleel on Monday. They said the Telangana government owed Rs 1,250 crore towards fee reimbursement to the private colleges in Telangana State.

They said there were 350 engineering colleges, 167 pharmacy, 400 MBA and more than 200 B Ed Colleges in Telangana with an intake of nearly 10 lakh students. They said that the colleges were facing deep crisis due to the inability of the government to clear dues and they were not able to pay salaries to 1.5 lakh staff.

Gautam Rao said that the government should not delay the payments further as it has already pushed several colleges on the verge of closure. Khaleel said that fee reimbursement constitute nearly 80 per cent of the total revenues of these colleges.

The delay has forced several colleges to borrow banks loans on huge interests to meet regular expenses. He appealed to the government to release the fee reimbursement dues immediately.
