Has Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao dropped the idea of floating a federal front as a third alternative to the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party?
Or have the so-called partners of the federal front seen through his game plan of isolating the Congress party?
Those who have closely watched the movements of KCR in New Delhi have come to the conclusion that KCR’s plan of floating and leading a federal front has fallen flat.
He had, in fact, a golden opportunity of meeting various leaders in New Delhi to step up the efforts to form the federal front.
There was Mamata Banerjee, Nitish Kumar, H D Kumara Swamy, N Chandrababu Naidu and other leaders with whom he could have held talks to give a shape to the front.
But KCR did not make any such effort. Instead, he confined himself to his residence after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union minister Rajnath Singh and others, besides attending the governing council meeting of Niti Aayog.
Even at the Niti Aayog meeting, KCR did not raise any issue of injustice meted out to southern states. Instead, he praised the Centre for granting several projects to the state.
Even the other regional party leaders did not evince any interest in having a meeting with KCR.
When all the Opposition chief ministers were expressing solidarity with agitating Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, KCR did not utter a word, let alone participating in the rally taken up by Naidu, Mamata and others.
This has led to the suspicion that KCR was getting closer to Modi and was only trying to split the pro-Congress parties.
With no other party coming forward to join his plan, KCR seems to have dropped the federal front idea, at least for now.
May be, he will come out with yet another political strategy in the coming days!
