The Federation of Aerial Cable Operators, representing the internet cable operators, strongly opposed the Telangana government's proposal to make Hyderabad city a Wifi Zone. They are of the view that the proposal was mooted only to benefit Reliance Group headed by Ambanis.
A delegation of cable operations led by FACO Executive Member Anil Chandra called on Telangana Information Technology Minister K Tarakarama Rao at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday asking him to reconsider the plan.
The operators pointed out that Reliance had offered six-months free service if Hyderabad is converted into Wifi Zone.
They said such a move would affect the livelihood of nearly 30,000 families who are dependent on internet cable operators. They said that the government should take the services of all cable operators and restrain from taking any measures that leads to unemployment.
The minister has reportedly assured that delegation that the TRS Government would not take any step in haste and all stake holders would be taken into confidence before implementing any plan. He also clarified that the government had no role in the offer made by Reliance.
